This page will guide you through what to prepare before leaving Taiwan or continuing your journey here.
This guide provides important information for international students after graduation. It covers key matters such as residence permit (ARC) status, health insurance (NHI), work regulations, and options after graduation including returning home, seeking employment, or continuing studies. Students are advised to carefully review the following information and prepare the required documents in advance to ensure a smooth transition after graduation.
Before You Graduate 畢業前準備
Please make sure you complete the following
- Complete all academic requirements
- Return library books and settle all fees
- Check dormitory check-out procedures
- Confirm your ARC validity
Post-Graduation Internship
If you would like to stay in Taiwan for an internship after graduation, you must meet the eligibility requirements set by the Ministry of Education and obtain an internship approval letter from your host organization. Please submit your application to the university at least 2 months before your ARC expires. After the university reviews your application, it will be forwarded to the Ministry of Education for final approval. The permitted duration for an internship application is limited to a maximum of one year after graduation.

| ARC (Residence Permit) 居留證 |
Return the ARC to the Immigration Agency. 將居留證繳回移民署 |
Within 15 days after receiving the diploma, go to the Immigration Agency in person to change the residence purpose to “Others – Job Seeking” or “Employment.” 領取畢業證書後15天內臨櫃變更居留事由為「其他－覓職」或「應聘」。 |
If the ARC expires before the new semester begins, an extension can be processed using the certificate of extended study instead of the enrollment certificate. 居留證在尚未開學前過期，以延修證明取代在學證明辦理延期。 |
Same university: If the ARC expires before the semester starts, apply online for an extension with the diploma and admission letter. Even if the ARC has not expired, it will become invalid once the school reports graduation. 本校：如居留證在尚未開學前過期，以畢業證書及錄取通知辦理線上延期。即便居留證未到期，學校通報畢業後也將失效。 Another university: Bring the admission letter from the new school to the Immigration Agency in the area where the new school is located. 他校：畢業後攜帶新學校的錄取通知，到新學校所在地的移民署辦理延期。 |

The school will process the NHI transfer-out. Students may keep their NHI card. 學校辦理健保轉出，健保卡可自己保留。 |
After graduation, the school will process the NHI transfer-out. Students must bring their ARC to the local township/city/district office to transfer NHI coverage. Without this, the NHI card cannot be used for medical services. Once employed, backdated premiums may also be charged. 畢業後學校辦理健保轉出，須持居留證至所屬鄉、鎮、市、區公所辦理健保轉入，如未加保將無法使用健保卡看診；找到工作時也可能被追溯補交健保費。 |

| Work Permit 工作證 |
After graduation, student status is lost. Even if the work permit is still valid, the graduate may no longer work or do part-time jobs. 畢業後，即喪失學生身分，即便工作證仍在效期內，也不能再工作或工讀。 |
Job seeking: Graduates with an associate degree or above may work in Taiwan during the approved job-seeking residence extension without applying for a work permit. 覓職：取得副學士以上學位者，於依法取得延期居留期間，在臺工作得免申請工作許可。 Employment: The company must assist with the work permit application. 應聘：需要由公司協助申請工作許可證。 |

Leaving Taiwan
Before departure, please:
- Close your bank account (To prevent it from being purchased and misused by criminal groups for fraud.) ）
- Make sure the mobile service contract is canceled
- Cancel your ARC
- Complete dorm check-out and take all of the goods belong you
- Authenticate academic documents (if needed)
- Keep important documents (transcripts and diploma of English)
