Apply for Your NHI (National Health Insurance) Card

Oveirview & Eligibility Requirements

Introduction

If this is your first time joining Taiwan’s National Health Insurance (NHI), the Office of Global Affairs (OGA) will apply for the NHI card for you. Once your card is ready, you will be notified and may collect it in person at the OGA office.

Who Needs to Join?

In accordance with Taiwan’s government regulations, all international students are required to maintain health insurance coverage throughout the duration of their stay

  • Students with a valid ARC who have stayed in Taiwan for 6 consecutive months must join NHI
  • If not yet eligible, students must enroll in Group Medical Insurance first

Eligibility

You can apply for NHI if:

  • Stay in Taiwan for 6 consecutive months after receiving ARC
  • During this period, you may leave Taiwan no more than, and your total time abroad must not exceed 30 days.
  • Days spent outside of Taiwan will not be counted towards the six-month residency requirement.

NHI Premium

Eligible students are required to pay the NHI premium accordign ot the following schedule.

  • Monthly: NTD 826
  • Per semester: NTD 4,956

Coverage Period

  • First Semester: August – January
  • Second Semester: February – July
